NEW PAPER ALERT: THE “A-19 SCALE”

We are thrilled to announce the publication of our research paper "Content and Construct Validity of the European Portuguese A-19 Scale of Children’s Attitudes". This project has been a collaborative effort with esteemed Professor Barry Guitar.   This paper focuses on feelings and attitudes towards communication in children who stutter, an important but often overlooked aspect of stuttering. We aim to underscore the critical role of Speech and Language Therapists in nurturing the communication skills of all children, with or without diagnosed conditions.   Our study validated the European Portuguese A-19 scale, a critical tool to assess feelings and attitudes of school-age children who stutter. It further emphasizes the importance of early, multidimensional assessments to combat negative attitudes towards communication.   The  final Portuguese version of A-19 was used in a pilot study in which 42 children participated (21 children who stutter and 21 children who do not stutter) and provided insightful findings on how children, both those who stutter and those without diagnosed disabilities, feel and think about communication. We must note, however, that this study includes a sample of children who stutter and are already attending speech and language therapy sessions. Future research should consider larger and more diverse sample sizes to strengthen the findings.   Findings from this study can be instrumental in the development of better approaches to stuttering treatment in Portuguese-speaking populations and further emphasize the role of emotional, behavioral, and cognitive factors in speech therapy.   The paper is now available for your reading: https://lnkd.in/dgsSVPKT. We hope you'll find it as interesting and informative as we did while working on it!   📖 Authors: Elsa Marta Soares, Ana Rita S. Celebrating Our Global Medical Director’s achievements

Today we want to spotlight a significant accomplishment in the field of mental health care. Our esteemed Global Medical Director, Gerald A. Maguire, MD, is announcing a unique Psychiatry Residency Program in California, a significant milestone for medical education.  For those who may be unfamiliar, a 'residency program' is a stage in graduate medical training where a doctor gains practical experience in a specific specialty while supervised by experienced physicians. This innovative program, led by Dr. Maguire and his team at the College Medical Center, promises to be a unique blend of community-based and academically focused learning for the future generation of psychiatrists.  This initiative, independent of iStutter Center, emphasizes Dr. Maguire's continuous dedication to enhancing mental health care, further deepening our pride in having him as a critical member of our team.  As a psychiatrist deeply committed to mental health issues, he profoundly understands the pressures individuals who stutter can face in various everyday activities, contributing immensely to our mission at the iStutter Center.  We are truly honored to have Dr. Maguire, with his empathy, vast expertise, and dedicated commitment to addressing mental health concerns, especially as they affect individuals who stutter and the communication and social challenges they may face in their personal and family lives.  Congratulations to Dr. Maguire on this outstanding accomplishment and for continually raising the bar in the field of mental health!  ...

iStutter Center opens in Spain in September 2023!

We are incredibly proud to announce the opening of the IStutter Center, starting this September, in Madrid, at the exclusive MipSalud Clinic, in the Salamanca District, near the Retiro Park and the Prado Museum.   This marks a significant moment in the history of our company, which for several years has maintained collaborations with speech therapists, research centers, universities, and non-profit organizations from our neighboring country.   Now, it is time to bring our clinical approach in stuttering therapy, our dedication, and our technological innovation to Spain. We will have a highly specialized team in stuttering that will conduct evaluations and sessions for children and their families, as well as for teenagers and adults who stutter.   We would like to express our gratitude to MipSalud for this opportunity to integrate into their magnificent team of health and management professionals. A special thank you to the Director, Dr. José Duval, Dr. Gemma Jabalquinto, and Lola Sánchez.   On Saturday, June 17th, we will organize a presentation event, exclusively for our partners and closest friends, who have accompanied us in this Iberian growth and learning journey. We will provide more news very soon!...
